2009 Bromont Canada Cup7 juillet
The second round of the Canada cup brought the Lama Cycles Team to Bromont, Qc, our local hill. The race was being held on the track that was purpose built for the World Cup that's set to roll into town on the 2th of July. We had the chance to see 2 world cup pinners, Sam Hill and Mitch Delfs, rip the track apart all weekend long,. Even though the weather conditions were horrible, the race brought over 350 downhill racers, 75 of which were in the pro men category.
Voici le vidéo de la course:
The World Cup caliber course had a great combination of all types of terrain, the top started off with a fast technical section through the woods which then brought you into a difficult off camber rock section and a super slippery rock chute which sling shot you to the bottom section, which was an absolutely flat out section of trail riddled with loose berms, high speed corners and jumps.
Compared to last year, a few changes have been made to gain flow and speed like a big wood berm after the slick rock section. The only problem was the weather. The weather forecast was accurate with temperatures of 15-25 degrees Celsius, winds and heavy rains. The race track suffered from deterioration due to torrents of rain through the weekend which created holes and mud pits. The slippery rocks and roots were also a big concern for a majority of racers. The thick mud sticking to the tires made them slide off the rocks and off-camber rooty sections on the track.
On top of that, unlike the other Canada Cup weekends where racers train until Saturday and then race on Sunday, racers only had 1 day of practice before race day on Saturday.
The Lama Cycles team had one of the biggest and most impressive team presences all weekend with a bigger, new and improved pit set up. The 400 square foot set up included a full work area for the team mechanic to get the bikes all dialed in and a seating area for the team to rest up.
The Lama Cycles/Morewood team performed very well once again! Guillaume Labrie finished 2nd in the cadet category which placed in 3rd position in the overall Canada cup ranking.

8-Jean-Philippe Da Silva
Also, two team riders made their way to the top ten elite men, with Mathieu Laurin in 7th place and Benoit Rioux in 9th.
Even with a hard crash a few seconds before the finish line, Ben managed to make it in the top ten. Ben's results allowed him to be in second position on the overall Canada Cup ranking. So far, we have 3 team members in the top ten overall standings.
