Championnat Québécois 09', Chelsea12 août
Last weekend, August 7th-9th , the Lama Cycles team made its way to Camp Fortune in Old Chelsea to race at the downhill Quebec Championships. Although many athletes decided to attend Crank Worx in BC, the turn out for this provincial event was more than satisfying.
The constant bad weather we have been experiencing throughout the summer led our racers to prepare for the worst. Surprisingly enough, the weather was hot, sunny and dry!
This year, the organizers and trail builders put in the extra effort. The track now started where it used to 3 years ago with a rocky start and a “hip” before entering the first wooded section. The track was flowy if you were able to go fast enough, making it very fun to ride and practice on. The track was pretty fast and rocky but, surprisingly, only called for a few braking points. There was a big pedaling section allowing spectators at the bottom to see the racers during their last 10 seconds on the 02:30 track.
After a big crash during his mandatory run, injuring his wrist, Guillaume was not as confident as he usually is for his race run. Still, Guillaume finished second in the cadet category. Guillaume is leading his category with only one race to go.
Philippe Cyrenne-Blanchard won the Junior expert men's category which would have put him in 2nd PRO (less than 0.2 second from the first place). He is now first in the overall Junior expert ranking.
In the senior elite category, with Ben rioux and Mathieu Laurin missing, the pressure to perform was on the team managers Ben and Justin. Justin had a really good weekend feeling confident in his practice runs. Coming in 4th, he pulled off his first PRO podium this year.
